As we welcome the Chinese New Year, MTR has announced that it will provide overnight train services on the 29th (28th) of the Lunar New Year and will enhance railway services during the two-dimensional harbor fireworks display at the beginning of the year. From tomorrow until the Spring Festival, several train services will be reinforced at different times, with a total of more than 1,600 train trips scheduled.
MTR stated that on the 29th of this year, eight local train lines will begin operations earlier at 3 PM during the evening rush hour. Additionally, the Hong Kong Island Line, Tsuen Wan Line, Kwun Tong Line, and Tseung Kwan O Line (from North Point to Tseung Kwan O Station) will have increased frequency, with trains arriving approximately every two minutes. That night, all local railway lines and seven light rail routes will operate overnight, except for the East Rail Line between Sheung Shui and Lo Wu/Lok Ma Chau stations, as well as the Airport Express and Disneyland Resort Line. Three MTR bus routes will extend their service hours, while high-speed rail services will continue as usual.
MTR also announced that from tomorrow until the seventh day of the Lunar New Year (January 24 to February 4), four railway lines—the Hong Kong Island Line, Tsuen Wan Line, East Rail Line, and South Island Line—will increase their service frequency at specific times on Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays. Additionally, the East Rail Line and Disneyland Resort Line will strengthen their train services during peak travel periods.
Furthermore, on the second day of the Lunar New Year (the 30th), seven railway lines—including the Kwun Tong Line, Tsuen Wan Line, Hong Kong Island Line, South Island Line, Tuen Ma Line, East Rail Line, and Tung Chung Line—will adjust their train schedules to accommodate passengers attending and departing from the fireworks display. The East Rail Line will also progressively increase its service frequency from the morning of the same day.
The Airport Express will also adjust its schedule in coordination with the Gaofeng tourism festival. On the first day of the Lunar New Year (the 29th), the first bus from Hong Kong Station to the airport and the AsiaWorld-Expo Station will depart at 5:35 AM. From the evening of the third day of the Lunar New Year to the fifth day (January 31 to February 2), the last train to Hong Kong Station will be extended to 1 AM.
